Halley VI, designed by Hugh Broughton and operational since 2012, is the first movable research station in Antarctica; built to withstand the polar winter. In 2106 it had to be relocated due to widening cracks in the ice shelf it sits on. Currently it is deemed unsafe to over winter on the base as a consequence of climatic instability.
